Position Overview:

The Royal Greenwich Educational Psychology and Wellbeing Service (EPWS) is pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for reflective, resourceful and enthusiastic Assistant Educational Psychologists (AEPs) to join our team. The successful candidates will play a key role in supporting the delivery of our innovative ‘Expert at Hand’ offer, alongside a range of educational psychology interventions and service development activities.

The ‘Expert at Hand’ model provides timely psychology-informed support to schools and educational settings, enabling staff to access consultation, advice and problem-solving at an early stage. Working alongside Educational Psychologists, AEPs will help facilitate responsive support to schools, contribute to consultation discussions, gather and analyse information, and support the implementation and evaluation of agreed actions. This provides an excellent opportunity to develop applied consultation skills and gain experience of psychology-informed systemic working.

The EPWS is located within the Inclusion, Learning and Achievement division of Children's Services, based at The Woolwich Centre in the heart of the Royal Borough of Greenwich.

The EPWS is well regarded within the Local Authority as a hard-working, supportive and friendly team. We offer a highly valued traded service to a range of schools, early years settings, post-16 and alternative providers and pride ourselves on the effective working relationships we have developed with service users. The EPWS is also funded to provide educational psychology support to the Early Years Inclusion Team, Alternative Provision settings, the Autism Outreach Team, the Youth Justice Service and the Virtual School.

Successful applicants will contribute positively and in a complementary way to service delivery, working under the supervision of an educational psychologist. This includes:

• Supporting the delivery and ongoing development of the EPWS ‘Expert at Hand’ service, providing timely psychology-informed support to schools and educational settings.
• Working alongside Educational Psychologists to gather information, contribute to consultation, formulation and problem-solving discussions, and support the implementation and review of actions identified through the ‘Expert at Hand’ process.
• Developing and applying knowledge and skills in psychological assessment, consultation, monitoring and tracking outcomes for children and young people with SEND as part of the ‘Expert at Hand’ offer.
• Delivering targeted interventions and support for children, young people and school staff, under the supervision of an Educational Psychologist, in response to needs identified through the ‘Expert at Hand’ process.
• Developing skills in consultation, solution-focused practice, systemic working and psychological formulation through active involvement in the ‘Expert at Hand’ model.
• Contributing to the ongoing development and evaluation of the ‘Expert at Hand’ service through project work, research, data analysis and service improvement activities.
• Supporting Educational Psychologists with the administration, coordination and documentation associated with the ‘Expert at Hand’ service, including meetings, consultations and follow-up activities.

Applicants must be eligible for graduate membership of the British Psychological Society and have a relevant undergraduate qualification in Psychology. Whilst this is a 3-year fixed term opportunity, it is hoped that the successful applicant will apply to gain a place on the Educational Psychology Doctorate course either after the first or second year of employment.
